No one likes to learn--and be forced to memorize--things that they feel have no application or purpose. A Reason for Spelling removes the stumbling block of "useless" work with their richly integrated spelling workbook. Filled with contemporary theme verses, writing activities and scripture verses, this course also integrates spelling with phonics, writing, and other language arts skills.
This Level A student worktext begins with a phonics section that offer fun activities based on partner letters and sound; for children learning phonics using this book, this section is completed in six weeks at the rate of 1 page per day. If students have or are using a different phonics program, this section may be used for review.
Each of the included 29 units contains four weekly lessons, each with a set of 7 words plus 3 challenge words. Level A words include: bed, red, did, small, glad, all, when, then, cent, mother, for, are, black, many, seven, and others. Arranged in a test-study-test sequence, students will learn through immediate correction of their work.
The student worktext is filled with a variety of fun games that will help students master each week's spelling list. They will edit sentences by fitting words into "shape boxes" that mirror the letters of the word, completing activities that cater to different learning styles, completing "fill-in-the-blank" questions, playing games, taking tests & dictation, and more.
The teacher's guidebook contains reduced-size student pages with the correct answers overlaid; the margins are filled with teaching notes, including a Scripture verse, literature connection with discussion questions, pre-test with instructions marked with the "say" symbol for easy lesson time, additional exercises, auditory/tactile/visual options, dictation sentences, post-tests, and other cross-curricular activities and exercises.
