627298: Creation to the Resurrection, Mystery of History Vol. 1 3rd Edition

Creation to the Resurrection, Mystery of History Vol. 1 3rd Edition
By Linda Lacour Hobar / Bright Ideas Press

The Mystery of History Volume 1: Creation to the Resurrection, 3rd Edition is written from a Christian, young-earth, perspective, and teaches children to see God's hand throughout history! Written in a conversational style, many lessons are presented in the form of mini-biographies, integrating fascinating stories with the events of the time. Covering creation to the resurrection, students will learn about famous biblical characters, ancient peoples, and well-known men such as Aesop, Buddha, Pythagoras, Confucius, Emperor Asoka, Herodotus, Caesar, Hannibal, and Herod.

This is a stand-alone text, but there are numerous recommended resources that parents can choose from to use with it. Ideally, students start the week with a short "What Do You Know?" pretest found online, then read the lessons and complete the activities. After reading the three lessons for the week, it's recommended that families set aside one day for review and geography (including memory cards or timeline figures). At the end of every other week, there are "what did you miss?" exercises and "what did you learn?" quizzes, at the end of every quarter there are "put it all together" worksheets , and at the end of each semester there is a semester test.

A download code to access a 500+ page digital Companion Guide is included on the inside front cover. This Digital Companion Guide includes pretests; activities for younger/middle/older students; timeline directions; mapping exercises; quizzes; literature suggestions; and more! (Code is for one family only and cannot be resold).

The 108 lessons will take a year to complete if you follow a traditional 36 week school year (3 lessons per week).

All Ages - 1st Grade through High School.

397 pages, hardcover. Non-consumable.

This 3rd edition features three improvements:

  • Now in hardcover for durability
  • More than 400 color images and maps with fact-filled captions are included
  • A download code to access a 500+ page digital Companion Guide

427060: The Mystery Of History, Volume 2: The Early Church and the Middle Ages

The Mystery Of History, Volume 2: The Early Church and the Middle Ages
By Linda Lacour Hobar / Bright Ideas Press

The Mystery of History Volume 2 continues the story of God's working in history with lessons that cover the early church that arose after the death of Christ (AD 33) through the Middle Ages and the invention of the printing press. This classical curriculum is written from a Christian, young-earth, perspective, and gives students insight into how the Gospel of Jesus is the mystery behind all of history! Written in a conversational style, many lessons are presented in the form of mini-biographies that integrate fascinating stories with the events of the time.

Arranged by semester, quarters, weeks and lessons, each quarter begins with an "Around the World" summary of events to introduce the time period; lessons progress chronologically with each week having 3 lessons, a pretest, review, activities (including Memory Cards) and exercise or quiz. This book integrates the text with write-in activity pages; these pages are reproducible for family use or students can write directly on the worksheets. The 84 lessons will take a year to complete if you follow a traditional 36 week school year (3 lessons per week).

Activities are broken down by age group and reinforce the material just learned through fun ideas that engage all learning styles; they're based upon the classical grammar/logic/rhetoric stages. Review exercises cover the timeline and map work exercises; quizzes are cumulative reviews that go over material from the very beginning of the course; the semester-long tests are similar (though longer), covering materials from 2 quarters (one major time period). Quarter-end worksheets help students synthesize what they've learned and keep everyone's memory up to date! Suggested Schedules for different age groups are included, as well as plenty of reproducibles.

Line-listed answers included. 714 three-hole-punched and perforated pages. Softcover consumable worktext. Activity pages are reproducible for in-family use only. Grades 3-8, but adaptable for the family.

This is still the first edition of Volume II, but currently is the 7th printing, which features minor changes such as altered dates (29 AD to 33 AD).

664004: The Mystery of History Volume 4: Wars of Independence to Modern Times

The Mystery of History Volume 4: Wars of Independence to Modern Times
By Linda Lacour Hobar / Bright Ideas Press

Mystery of History Volume IV is the last and final volume of the Mystery of History series from Bright Ideas Press! Covering 1708 to 2014, it begins with Bach and Handel, brings the reader through multiple "wars of independence" as well as many "wars of ideologies" between Marxism, Darwinism, Fascism, and the Cold War. World War I and II bring the reader to more modern day conflicts, including a collapsed Soviet Union, a divided Korea, tension in the Middle East, and an ongoing War on Terror.

However, in addition to studying the violence of this era, the artists, inventors, writers, and humanitarians who contributed toward the "soul" of mankind over the last three centuries are also integrated. A world history text, Mystery of History 4 does cover important events in American history (though it cannot stand alone as an American history course), including the American Revolution, the War Between the States, the War in Vietnam, and the Civil Rights movement.

The last and final chapter looks at what is to come as outlined in the Book of Revelation. This section does not follow any single view of eschatology, but it will take students to the final chapters of Revelation, and its picture of the new heaven and new earth.

Volume IV is a hardcover volume that contains all of the lessons students are to read. It also contains a unique download code on the first page of the book to give access to the Companion Guide, which contains pretests, activities, quizzes, timeline directions, mapping exercises, and literature suggestions.

607 pages, hardcover. High School content; with parental modifications of content may be used for younger grades.
