Pandia Press: Real Science Odyssey Earth & Environment: You will find REAL Science Odyssey to be unlike any other science curricula available. Most notably, it is secular. Only scientific inquiry and theory based on empirical and measurable evidence are understood to be valid and standard science in all REAL Science Odyssey courses. Also, REAL Science Odyssey courses are written specifically for home and small group use. Packed full of serious science and loads of fun, REAL Science Odyssey is an incremental program that gently builds on itself and incorporates mathematics, scientific method, and science terminology. Created with the science novice in mind, you don’t need any science background to teach REAL Science Odyssey. In REAL Science Odyssey Earth & Environment 1, the topics include scientific modeling, a study of three of Earth’s “spheres,” weather, climate, the environment, erosion, and plate tectonics. Students study the weather; climate and climate change; the age of the earth and forces that shape it; and current pollution and environmental issues that affect water, land, and air. Short lessons are followed by several hands-on labs and activities including making a Pangaea puzzle, testing various methods of cleaning an oil spill, making a geologic timeline, and water cycle in a bowl. Rocks and minerals are studied in depth with students identifying their samples through the same tests used by geologists.
Pandia Press: History Quest Middle Times: The Study Guide contains everything you need for a full year’s history curriculum for elementary-age children. Each weekly unit takes a chapter of History Quest: Middle Times, the narrative history series, and turns it into a robust unit study with a week’s worth of engaging activities. Your student will gain a broad and deep understanding of the Middle Ages through readings, geography activities, discussions, writing assignments, coloring pages, crafts, and more. Also included throughout the curriculum are four weeks of warm and cozy ancient literature study, where parents and students snuggle up together to enjoy time-honored tales from four cultures across the world. The History Quest: Middle Times Study Guide is your child’s first step in a lifelong quest to explore and appreciate history. From the Fall of Rome to the Ottoman Empire, the study guide to History Quest: Middle Times is a complete one-year curriculum guide that combines history with activities, world geography, great books, and writing. Young students study events and people from medieval times including the Middle East, China, Europe, Mesoamerica, North America, Japan, India, Mali, Mongolia, Great Zimbabwe, Polynesia, and Russia.
