Want to make your life easier? Adding Events to your Homeschool Planet account gives you the ability to see the entirety of your schedule in one place. Learn the simple steps to adding events in this User Guide entry.

What Kinds of Events Can I Add?

You can add just about any event to your Homeschool Planet calendar! Here are a few examples of commonly added events users put on their calendar~

  • Birthdays
  • Anniversaries
  • Vacations

How to Add an Event

  1. After logging into your account, click on a blank space in your calendar, then select the “Everything Else” option.
  2. In the “Create Birthday” window (which can be for any event, not just birthdays), use the drop-down menu in the “Category:” field to select the category you need or select “Add a Category” if you want a new category. Next, fill in the Activity title field.
  3. Select a color from the Color field if you would like a different color than the default for the Category you selected.
  4. Next, you will want to determine the time frame for your Activity using the drop-down menu for the “When” field. The default is that the event will occur annualy on the date it is applied to the calendar but there are quite a few preset options as well as a “More choices” option for creating a customized schedule. Here are the steps for creating a customized schedule:
    • Select one of the pre-set options from the When drop-down menu or choose the “More choices” option in the drop-down menu which will open the “Edit custom schedule” window.
    • In the “When” drop-down menu, select “Custom schedule…” at the bottom of the list.
    • When this option is select, you will be able to choose a repeat pattern, specific days, and times. To the left of these fields, you will also be able to set the “Starting” and “Until” dates.
    • When you are satisfied with your schedule selections, click the “Save” button on the bottom of the window.
  5. Set a start and end date for your class if you do not want them to follow the pre-selected default of No end date.
  6. Choose whether this is an All day event or in a specified window of time.
  7. Next go to the Notes tab and enter any additional needed information. You may use the “To every day/week, add this:” field to enter the same info, such as a location or other pertinent information, to each day this activity occurs.
    • You can upload documents, add convenient reminders, or link to websites if needed.
  8. That’s it! Select Save & Close!

In Homeschool Planet adding your Activities is a great way to ensure that all the info you need to run your home- work, school, family- is in one place. To learn how to add these items to your planner see the tutorial below.

What Activities Can I add?

You can add just about any activity to your Homeschool Planet calendar! Here are a few examples of commonly added activities users put on their calendar~

  • Chore Schedules
  • Field Trips
  • Music classes and practice schedules
  • Practice schedules for Sports
  • Weekly Church/Youth events
  • Extra-curricular events

How to Add an Activity

  1. After logging into your account, click on a blank space in your calendar, then select the “Everything Else” option.
  2. In the “Create Activity” window, use the drop-down menu in the “Category:” field to select the category you need or select “Add a Category” if you want a new category. Next, fill in the Activity title field if you would like. Use the “For Whom:” drop-down menu to select the person(s) this Activity is for.

In addition to academic endeavors, chores, and extra curricula activities you can add appointments to your online planner to help you keep everything in one place! Learn how to add appointments to your calendar with the tutorial found below!

Adding Appointments

  1. After logging into your account, click on a blank space in your calendar, then select the “Everything Else” option.
  2. In the “Create Activity” window, use the drop-down menu in the “Category:” field to select the category you need or select “Add a Category” if you want a new category. Next, fill in the Activity title field if you would like. Use the “For Whom:” drop-down menu to select the person this appointment is for.
  3. Next, you will want to select the date for your appointment using the drop-down menu for the “When” field. If you have clicked on the calendar on the date of the appointment it will already be entered in the date field. If this is a recurring appointment or you need to select a different date there are quite a few preset options as well as a “More choices” option for creating a customized schedule.
  4. After selecting your date(s), choose the time for this appointment.
  5. Next go to the Tasks tab and enter any additional needed information.
  6. You can upload documents, add convenient reminders, or link to websites if needed.
  7. That’s it! Select Save & Close!

Adding Birthdays

It is soooo convenient to have all the info you need together in one spot! Homeschool Planet helps you accomplish that in multiple ways, including adding birthdays to your calendar. Learn how to add birthdays (and other annual events too!) with the instructions in this User Guide entry!

Adding Birthdays

  1. After logging into your account, click on a blank space in your calendar, then select the “Birthdays…” option.
  2. In the “Create Activity” window, use the drop-down menu in the “Category:” field to select the subject or to “Add a Category” Next, fill in the Activity title field if you would like. Use the “For Whom:” drop-down menu to select your student(s).
  3. Next, you will want to determine the time frame for your class using the drop-down menu for the “When” field. There are quite a few preset options as well as a “More choices” option for creating a customized schedule. Here are the steps for creating a customized schedule:
    1. Select the “More choices” option in the drop-down menu which will open the “Edit custom schedule” window.
    2. In the “When” drop-down menu, select “Custom schedule…” at the bottom of the list.

    4. When you are satisfied with your schedule selections, click the “Save” button in the bottom left of the window which will take you back to the “Create Class” window.
  4. If you have chosen one of the preset options in step 3, choose your “Starting:” and “Until” dates and an “At this time:” if you want the class to be held at a specific time. Go to Step #6.
  5. (If you are planning to add chores to an activity that is already set-up simply choose the title of the activity from the Calendar and then choose Edit from the pop-up box.)
  6. Next go to the Tasks tab, in the “Show” fields, select your “From:” and “Through:” time frame for a repeating assignment.
  7. For a single chore, below the “Show:” section, locate the “To every class day, add this:” field and enter your information.
  8. Select the “Add” button and a confirmation window will open. Review the information, select the appropriate button to either fix or make them all the same. If you are happy with your plan, select the “Yes, make them all the same” option, and another confirmation window will open. Review the information in this window, then select the “OK, add them” button.
  9. For multiple chores per day choose the “More options” link and follow the prompts. *This process follows the same guidelines as adding multiple assignments.
  10. That’s it! Select Save & Close!

If you are adding the same assignment each day to a class that is already set-up go straight to step #5

  1. After logging into your account, click on a blank space in your calendar, then select the “Everything Else” option.
  2. In the “Create Activity” window, use the drop-down menu in the “Category:” field to select the subject or to “Add a Category” Next, fill in the Activity title field if you would like. Use the “For Whom:” drop-down menu to select your student(s).

Adding Community Service Hours

Yes, you can track your students’ service hours within a class or activity created in Homeschool Planet just for your community service (link here for how to get started) and then pull a “Class Hours” report at any time to find the cumulative amount you may wish to add to your report cards or transcripts afterward! How to Add Community Service Hours

  1. After logging into your account, click on a blank space in your calendar, then select the “Everything Else” option.
  2. In the “Create Activity” window, use the drop-down menu in the “Category:” field to select the category you need or select “Add a Category” if you want a new category. Next, fill in the Activity title field.
