The Rescheduling Helper

By | Assignments

Of all the features that set our online planner apart, none is more exciting (or saves more eraser time!) than the Rescheduling Helper. Bump things out, move them back,

Homeschool Planet Assignments User Guide

The Rescheduling Helper!!!!!!!!

Typically, the Helpers (there is a Grading Helper in addition to the Rescheduling Helper) are set to automatically launch when you first log into your account. If this is not the case, you can change the settings for the Helpers by hovering over the “Settings” icon in the upper right menu, then select the “General” option. When this window opens, click the “Helpers” tab on the left, then choose the “Yes” option from the drop-down menu beside the “Automatically launch the Rescheduling and Grading Helpers each day” statement. Be sure to click the “Save” button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen to save your changes.

If you would like to access the Rescheduling Helper any other time, this can be done by hovering over the “Helpers” icon in the upper right menu, then selecting it from the drop-down menu. The “Reschedule Assignments” window will open with a few options from which to choose. Select the one that best fits your needs. If you select the “Reschedule overdue assignments only” or the “Reschedule overdue AND today’s assignments as well” options, the “Reschedule Assignments” window will open just as it does when you first log into your account.

If you choose the “Reschedule an entire day’s assignments by making it a day off” option, you will be taken to the “School Years” tab of your settings, where you can mark the day as a non-school day by clicking on it, changing it from a green checkmark to a red X. If there are any assignments for that day, the “Reschedule Assignments” window will open for you to make your selections.

When in the “Reschedule Assignments” window, you will see the assignments and scheduled dates in a list on the left. Next to the “Assignment” column header, there is a “Customize…” text link. If you select this link, the “Select Assignments” window will open allowing you to refine which assignments you want to see. They can be refined in a variety of ways including by student, subject, time frame, class, and more.

Beside each assignment, there are the rescheduling options radio buttons. There are colored vertical lines connecting each option to the corresponding radio buttons to help in locating the correct option when marking assignments. These options include:

  • Ask me next time and leave it as-is for now (yellow)
  • Never show this one again (gray)
  • Mark complete (green)
  • Delete this item (red)
  • Carry forward and leave the rest of the schedule alone (orange)
  • Carry forward and shift schedule by one day (blue)

At the very top of the columns of radio buttons, there is a “mark all” option. When an option from the list above is selected in this row, all of the assignments below will also be marked with this option. This is very helpful when you know you want everything marked the same. Individual assignments can still be changed to a different option even though the “mark all” option has been selected.

After you are satisfied with your choices, select the “OK” button in the bottom right-hand corner and your assignments will be saved as you have marked them.

Creating Multiple Assignments Per Day

By | Assignments

Do you have a series of items or steps that your student must complete in a class each day? With Homeschool Planet you can utilize our Assignment Generator to add multiple assignments to a single day at once. Read on to find out how!

Homeschool Planet Assignments User Guide

Let’s Start Creating Multiple Assignments!

  1. After logging into your account, locate the class want to modify, click the title or somewhere in that Class box, and choose the “Edit” option.
  2. Once the “Edit Class” window opens, look on your assignments tab above your assignment list, then select the “More options…” text link found to the far right of the “To every class day, add this:” field and the “Add” button.
  3. When the “Assignment Generator” window opens, there will be several options to choose from.  Any of these options can be selected, but the simplest method is the “I have a specific number of assignments, but no specific end date.” option. (See note below for more information.)
  4. In the next window, fill in the fields with your information, then select the “Next” button.
  5. In the next screen, review the instructions at the top of the window and create your assignments in the “Do this:” section. It is important to keep the braces in your assignments so that our system will know to create them in sequential order (ex: Lesson {1}, Lesson {2}). You can use the “More…” option at the end of the assignment row just as you do when creating individual assignments on your “Assignment” tab.
  6. Your assignments will populate below in the “Preview” section, showing multiple assignments per day. Once you are satisfied with the way your assignments look, click the “OK” button in the lower right-hand corner of the window. A confirmation window will open. Select the “OK, add them” option and the assignments will be applied to your class lesson plan.
  7. You will now be back in the “Edit Class” window. Select the “Save and Close” button in the lower right, and the new assignments will be added to your planner.

Note: You can select different options when the “Assignment Generator” window opens. For most, our system will automatically create the number of assignments per day based upon the entered date range and/or the number of assignments. Whichever option you select, you can follow the basic steps above for creating your assignments.

Adding Notes to Assignments

By | Assignments

Notes are helpful additions to your assignments.  They remind you of information, add clarity to your assignments, and make schooling easier! To learn more about adding notes to assignments the directions below.

Homeschool Planet Assignments User Guide

First a word about Notes~

One of the largest differences is that notes do not have checkboxes while assignments do. If you want the information on a day to have a checkbox you will enter it as an assignment. If you do not, then add a note.

A second important item to understand about notes is how they are pinned. If you are using either purchased or user-created lesson plans, notes are pinned to the assignment and do move with the assignment when rescheduled. However, if you add a note to a class that is on the calendar, then notes are assigned to a day and not pinned to an assignment. They do not move when the assignment is rescheduled. So attach notes in the lesson plan if they are to be pinned to an assignment and to to a class on the calendar if they are to be fixed to the date.

Adding Notes to Assignments

  1. After logging into your account, find the class that includes the assignment for which you want to add the note, click on the class title, then select the “Edit” option.
  2. Once the “Edit Class” window opens,  locate the tab labeled “Notes” and select it.
  3. When you are in the “Note” tab,  you can do a few things:
    1. Set your date range using the “Show” section.
    2. In the “To every class, add this:” field, you can add the same information to every date.
    3. The “More options…” text link opens the “Note Generator” that provides a variety of choices for creating your note(s) including repeating the same information over specific date range, recurring patterns, and more. Follow the prompts to use this feature.
    4. You can also just type in notes on any given day that you choose.
  4. You will need to select who the note is “Visible to ?” by using the drop-down menu in that field.
  5. When you have finished adding your information, select the “Save and close” button in the lower right corner of the window.

Checking off Future Assignments

By | Assignments

We never want to stifle our student’s work so when they want to work ahead LET THEM! Find out below how to deal with this in your favorite online homeschool planner.

Homeschool Planet Assignments User Guide

Checking off Future Assignments

  1. After logging into your planner, check that your “Assignments display” option at the bottom of the calendar window is not set to “None” so that assignment checkboxes are visible.
  2. Locate the assignment you want to mark as done, then click the checkbox next to the assignment you want to mark complete.
  3. Because the assignment is scheduled for the future, the “Assignment Scheduled for Future Date” popup window will open.
  4. Review the available options and select the one that best fits.
    • Mark it complete and leave the rest of the schedule unchanged. This option will mark the future assignment complete but no assignments will move.
    • Mark it complete and move it to today, but leave the rest of the schedule unchanged. This option will move the assignment marked complete to the day it was completed but no other assignments will move.
    • Mark it complete, move it to today, and shift the rest of the schedule for this class forward. This option will move the completed assignment to the day it is marked complete and move other future assignments back to the next empty date. Note that if there are assignments between the newly completed assignment and the date the assignment was originally scheduled no assignments will move as assignments only move into empty days.
  5. Click the “OK’ button in the bottom right-hand corner. Your assignments and applicable plan changes will be made according to the option you selected.

Note: In step 4, you will also see a checkbox at the bottom of the option list for “Always do this when I mark future assignments.” If you check this box, then whatever option you have selected will happen every time you mark a future assignment. Also, when checking this box, then selecting the “OK” button, a “How to Change Settings” popup window will open providing information about changing this setting with a text link to “Take me there now.” if you would like to change the setting immediately.

If you check this option and then later change your mind, here are some steps for changing the setting:

  1. In your calendar, in the upper right menu above your planner, hover over the “Settings” icon, then select “General” from the dropdown menu.
  2. If you are not already brought to your “My Choices” tab, select it on the left-hand side.
  3. Look for the “Marking Assignments” section and use the dropdown menu to make your change.
  4. In the lower right, click the “Save” button.
